Homa Bay: Calls for Justice as Cops Allegedly Ambush, Shoot SDA Pastor

Residents of Homa Bay town were left in shock after a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) pastor was reportedly shot by police officers.

According to reports, Pastor Joseph Mureri was driving from Pier Beach within Homa Bay town when his vehicle, a Toyota Premio was ambushed.

Speaking to journalists, Mureri’s wife Janet said his car was sprayed with bullets leaving him with gunshot wounds in the right thigh and leg.

Locals said the car was blocked from moving before it was sprayed with bullets damaging its bonnet, windscreen and the driver’s door.

“We were surprised and ran away to hide when we heard several gunshots. We suspected they were police officers dealing with a criminal,” a local was quoted by Mpasho.

Following the incident, Janet arrived at the scene and rushed Mureri to the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

They are now calling on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the shooting incident.

“As the family, we want to know people behind the incident so we get justice. Let investigations expedited and suspects exposed,” Janet said.

The clergyman was serving at Makongeni SDA.
