Half-A-Decade Abandoned: Al-Shabaab releases video of KDF soldier abducted in 2016

His family has been searching for their kin since the last five years with all efforts futile.

The soldier’s mother Rizpah Wasike, upon seeing an emotional video of their kin asking for help, urged the state to intervene.

It has been five years since I last saw my son. The video shows he is alive, I want him back,” Wasike appealed as quoted by Daily Nation.

Wanyonyi’s auncle, Jastus Masinde commented saying the thought of losing him was stressing the family.

The family at large were happy and thanked the Almighty after learning that their sibling was still alive.

“It has been traumatising for our family thinking he is dead but we now know he is alive,” his sister Sylvia Wasike said.

Through the video released by Al-shabaab, Wanyonyi was sad how the government had forgotten them yet they stood and protected the nation when attacked by the terrorists.

“We protect them and this is how we are repaid. They are making peace among themselves but not helping rescue prisoners from al-Shabaab.”

Wanyonyi was abducted during the El Adde camp attack on January, 15 2016 that took the lives of over 140 soldiers and injuring others.

Reports have since disclosed that Somali authorities knew about the Al-shabaab plans to attack the military base.
