Gideon Moi: Baringo Senator Seeks to Retain his Seat

KANU Chairman and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is seeking to defend his seat in the August 9 General Elections.

In an announcement on Wednesday, May 18, KANU Secretary General Nick Salat said Moi’s name has since been forwarded to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“Yes, the chairman’s name was submitted to the IEBC by the party to go for the Senate seat in the August General Election. The party’s election board forwarded the name but I do not know if it was his will or not, but his name was submitted,” Salat said.

Following his entry into the Baringo gubernatorial race, Moi will face off with United Democratic Alliance contestant and Baringo North MP William Cheptumo.

Moi had previously not declared whether he will be seeking to defend his seat or not.

Moi and the trio formed One Kenya Alliance (OKA) to contest for the country’s top seat but Wetangula and Mudavadi departed to Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Salat also mentioned that KANU is keen on working with UDA diehards who lost in the nominations despite their loyalty and commitment towards the party.

“What was UDA last week and what it is today are not the same. Those who were at the forefront defending UDA ended up being victims and their vocal-ness is no longer there. The new people who have come on board do not have the same vigour that the rest had
