The first man to receive the COVID-19 vaccine has died at 81.
According to reports, William “Bill” Shakespeare succumbed to unrelated ailment.
Bill came into the limelight in December 2020 after becoming the world’s second person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine after 91-year-old Margaret Keenan.
Confirming his death, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust through his wife Joy said that the old man died following a stroke.
“Bill was so grateful for being offered the opportunity to become one of the first people in the world to be given the vaccine
“It was something he was hugely proud of, he loved seeing the media coverage and the positive difference he was able to make to the lives of so many,” said Joy.
Joy further thanked all of the staff of the hospital for attending to her late husband with care, compassion and respect.
Bill who was a father of two and grandfather of four died peacefully on Thursday, May 20, at University Hospital.
He was an inpatient in a frailty ward when he received the vaccination.
