FIFA Suspends Kenya From Football Activities Over Goverment Interference

FIFA has banned Kenya from all sporting activities over the decision to disband Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and installing a caretaker committee.

In a letter addressed to FKF secretary-general Barry Otieno, FIFA asked the government to repeal the decision to disband the federation for the suspension to be lifted.

“These associations are suspended from footballing activities with immediate effect and they know what needs to be done for them to be re-admitted or for the suspension to be lifted,” FIFA directed.

Zimbabwe also suffered the similar fate, according to a statement by FIFA President Gianni Infantino who announced the two countries’ indefinite suspension.

“These associations are suspended from footballing activities with immediate effect and they know what needs to be done for them to be re-admitted or for the suspension to be lifted,” Infantino said.

In November 2021, Sports CS Amina Mohamed banned FKF and formed a caretaker committee chaired by retired Justice Aaron Ringera to govern the country’s football.

The CS said she disbanded the football body after FKF failed to account for the monies it has been allocated for by her ministry.

“Over the past few years, the Football Kenya Federation has faced several governance issues that have been of great concern to the Ministry

“First, the Football Kenya Federation has failed to account for all the monies allocated to it by the Government,” Amina said.
