Fact Check: Cleophas Malala Didn’t Score C- in 2003 KCSE as Alleged

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been on the receiving end for some days now over his considered insensitive remarks towards members of the National Police Service.

Speaking at a political rally in Kakamega, Malala sensationally claimed police officers were unschooled individuals and asked the next government to allow school dropouts into the service.

His remarks were not received well by the members of the public including the police officers who castigated the lawmaker, forcing him to apologise.

At the same time, an image went viral on social media purporting to be the KCSE certificate of Malala who is seeking the Kakamega gubernatorial seat.

The image, which was circulated mostly by his critics aimed to paint the image that the senator had flunked in his academics despite looking down upon the police over the same.

According to the image seen by GOTTA.news, the graphic purported that Malala scored a mean grade of C- (minus) in the 2003 KCSE examinations which he wrote at the Bungoma county-based Friends School Kamusinga.

It indicated he scored grades; C+ (plus) in both English and Kiswahili, D-(minus) in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, D+ (plus) in Biology, C-(minus) in Commerce and B (plain) in History.

But is this true? GOTTA.news’s fact check desk found out.

On Friday, May 27, Malala took to Twitter to share images of his academic testimonials to clear the air.

Of focus was his KCSE certificate. Contrary to the assertion peddled around that he scored a C- (minus) mean grade, the authentic certificate showed that he scored a mean grade of B (plain).

As earlier claimed, the senator indeed wrote his KCSE examinations in 2003 at Friends School Kamusinga.

The original certificate indicated that he scored B+ (plus) in Kiswahili, Geography and Social Education and Ethics, B- (minus) in both English and Mathematics and B (plain) in both Biology and Chemistry.

GOTTA.news’s
fact check concludes that the KCSE certificate purporting that Malala scored a C- (minus) is manipulated.
