Ezekiel Mutua: ‘Moral Cop’ Appointed New MCSK Boss

Former Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua has landed a new job.

Mutua was appointed the new CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), according to a statement by the board on Monday, March 28.

The Board noted that the former KFCB boss emerged top in interviews MCSK conducted.

“The Board of Directors of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, MBS, as its Chief Executive Officer, effective Friday 25th March 2022

“Dr Mutua’s appointment follows rigorous competitive interviews in which he emerged top among the candidates who were interviewed for the position,” MCSK announced.

Reacting to the appointment, Mutua expressed gratitude for rejoining the creative industry promising to defend the rights of musicians.

“I have received with profound gratitude my appointment to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). Happy to rejoin the creative industry, this time not as a regulator, but as a promoter and defender of the rights of musicians

“I look forward to working with the Board and relevant industry stakeholders to reinvigorate the music industry and make Kenyan music profitable through effective and efficient collection and distribution of royalties, by fighting piracy and promoting the rights of musicians,” Mutua wrote in part.

Mutua was fired from KFCB in August 2021 for reportedly asking an Inspector General of State Corporations to leave during the board’s meeting on June 30 which is against the State Corporation Act.
