Deputy President William Ruto has responded to late Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei’s father, John Chesang, who recently accused him of abandoning his family despite making promises.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the DP mentioned that several cases of police officers committing suicide has been in the spotlight.
While still at it, DP Ruto dragged Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s bodyguard, Hudson Wakise who killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, into his response to Kenei’s father.
The DP, however, denied that he was hinting at Kenei committing suicide, further urging the late sergeant’s family to allow relevant agencies to investigate the case.
“These matters happen. I saw the other day an officer killing his wife and turning the gun on himself. A lot of issues and incidences occur and police do not have to create unnecessary drama and politics but investigate the case,” he said.
“Am not suggesting that Kenei committed suicide. I am putting all cards on the table. What do I tell the family? I have been forthright with them. I even recently learnt that Kenei is related to a Cabinet Secretary who is one of my closest friends.”
As earlier reported on GOTTA.news, Kenei’s father hinted on reviving the brutal murder case while accusing DP Ruto of abandoning his family after Kenei passed on.
Kenei was linked at Ruto’s office where he was station for eight years until his death on February 21, 2020 in case ruled as murder by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Chesang said that Ruto had distanced himself from the family even after making clear promises ahead of their son’s burial.
The father also found fault with the DP for ambiguously claiming during the burial ceremony that his life was at risk also after Kenei’s death.
“Since then, no action has been taken and we have not communicated in any form whatsoever. We, the family, were expecting to see him (Ruto) because he had claimed that he would have been the target instead of Kenei. What action has he taken? He said during the interview
The family criticized Ruto for being silent over the matter even after slamming the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“He was also blaming the DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations). Why has he not informed us of any other entity he is using to carry out the investigations? He does not want DCI and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations), what does he want?” Questioned Chesang.
