The man suspected to be the mastermind behind the fatal shooting of Samuel Mugo Muvota in Mirema Springs, Nairobi County has surrendered to the police.
Dennis Gachoki presented himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, May 23, three days after detectives launched a manhunt for him.
According to Citizen Digital, Gachoki maintained his innocence saying he only met the deceased thug twice; in Meru and Nairobi.
In Meru, the two met at a wedding of a mutual friend and in Nairobi, Gachoki claims he bumped into Muvota at a car wash along Kiambu road.
He added that during the two encounters, there was no proof of rivalry.
“I knew him but I had never had his contact. I got to know him in 2018 during a wedding ceremony in Meru. A friend of mine introduced me to Muvota. After wedding, we used same vehicle back to Nairobi
“We never exchanged the contacts. At the time of his murder I was in Nakuru when I heard that he has been killed. I learnt his death through the media,” Gachoki said.
He said he learnt that he was being sought by the DCI while in Nakuru and he has had no peace since then.
“I was in Nakuru when I learnt that I had been declared as the most dangerous and armed criminal by the DCI. Someone recognized me and told me that police were looking for me. Since then my life has been hell. I have not known peace,” he said.
Over the weekend, DCI linked the murder of Muvota to Gachoki, saying he is armed and dangerous and he was in possession of a gun that he snatched from a police officer in Mombasa.
The DCI added that Gachoki difficult to arrest since he is working with rogue police officers who tip him when an operation has been launched.
“Efforts by detectives to arrest him have been futile since the thug who is well-loaded influences rogue cops who tip him off once an operation for his arrest has been launched,” the DCI added.
