A traffic police officer who was caught on camera entering a vehicle through the window after a disagreement with a motorist will face disciplinary action.
According to the video that was filmed at the GPO roundabout along Kenyatta Avenue, the officer was seen in a heated exchange with the driver before he entered the car through the window.
Following the officer’s move, the driver was forced to flee leaving the vehicle behind with the police officer on the wheel and a man in the passenger’s seat.
Left with no other option, the officer drove the vehicle towards Central Police Station.
It is not clear what precipitated for the officer to take such an action that elicited bashing from netizens.
The National Police Service (NPS) has since reacted to the incident, noting that stern action would be taken against the police officer.
NPS assured the public that the officer had been positively identified and is undergoing disciplinary action.
“The National Police Service has taken note of an incident which has been trending on social media, whereby a police officer on traffic duties was captured forcing himself into a private vehicle,” the service said.
NPS further urged officers to undertake their mandate in outmost fulfillment of the law.
“We reiterate that it is imperative for individual police officers to discharge their mandate professionally, diligently and with high levels of discipline,” the statement added.
