On Thursday, April 14, the United Democratic Party (UDA) held its nomination exercise in 36 counties across the country.
The party hailed the exercise as successful despite claims of electoral malpractices and chaos in some parts.
In other areas, aspirants engaged in ugly confrontations over rigging attempts.
Aside from how the party conducted the exercise, the primaries also had casualties, some who were perceived to be big shots close to the Deputy President William Ruto.
Others were thrown out by little-known competitors despite their closeness with DP who happens to be the party leader.
Below are notable names that lost in the party primaries.
Isaac Mwaura
Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura popularly known as ‘Muthungu wa Ruiru’ who was contesting for the Ruiru MP seat failed to beat his main competitor Simon King’ara Ng’ang’a to win the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Mwaura who was a member of the ruling Jubilee Party decamped to Deputy President William Ruto’s camp in 2020.
Ever since, the MP has been a staunch supporter of the DP despite accusations of betraying President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Caleb Kositany
Soy MP Caleb Kositany lost the UDA nomination ticket to Jonathan Bii Chelilim, commonly known as Koti Moja.
Kositany was seeking the ticket to contest for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial.
He contested for the ticket with among others Ambassador Julius Bitok, Veska Kangogo and former Ambassador to China Sarah Serem.
Patrick Wainaina Wa Jungle
Thika Town MP Patrick Wa Jungle was seeking a UDA ticket to contest for Kiambu gubernatorial seat in the August 9 General Elections.
However, the MP failed to beat his opponent Senator Kimani Wa Matangi to clinch the nomination.
Charles Keter
Former Energy and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter failed to gather enough votes win the UDA nomination in Kericho County.
Keter lost to Dr Eric Mutai who will contest for Kericho gubernatorial seat under the UDA party in the forthcoming polls.

Wilson Sossion
The Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) chairman was seeking a UDA ticket contest for the Bomet senatorial seat.
Sossion who decamped from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to join UDA lost the ticket to lawyer Hillary Sigei.
Njogu wa Njoroge
Former Kameme TV presenter Njogu wa Njoroge graceously accepted defeat after losing in the UDA party nominations.
Njoroge who was to vie for the Njoro constituency seat lost to Charity Kathambi.
He joined UDA in January 2022.
Cate Waruguru
Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has lost her bid to run for Laikipia East parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket.
The vocal MP emerged second after garnering 5,595 votes behind Deddy who scooped 12,743 votes to fly the UDA party flag for parliamentary seat.
Waruguru had earlier alleged elections rigging.
