Police have launched a manhunt for eleven suspects who escaped from Bungoma Central Police Station on Saturday night, August 15.
Confirming the incident, Bungoma South OCPD Willison Nanga said the suspects escaped after digging a hole through the wall.
He further noted that one of the suspects was shot at his thighs as he tried to escape.
The suspect identified as Isaac Wekesa was then taken to Bungoma Referral Hospital for treatment.
Others who escaped were identified as Brian Ochieng Onyango (robbery with violence), John Wanyonyi (robbery with violence), Clerkson Otieno (burglary), Simon Wekesa (assault), Collins Juma Nyukuri (assault), Alex Simiyu Muyekho (stealing), Bramwel Barasa (defilement), Pascal Kiberenge Namasaka (impersonation), Emmanuel Wakoko (assault), and John Barasa Wekesa (breaking and stealing).
Nanga said that then suspects were seen running towards a nearby bush at an Airstrip area.
He warned members of the public against hiding the suspects.
“We are calling upon the residents to volunteer any information to the police because this are hard core criminal,” he said.
This came two weeks after six suspects also escaped from Karuri Police Station cells.
According to a police report, the six – five remandees and a convict – escaped after a cutting part of the windows.
Corporal Boniface Simiyu and Boniface Mwanzia heard commotion in the cells and when they went to find out what was happening, they noticed that one twisted metal bar at the ventilation window had been cut and was left on the floor.
