Bungoma: Boda Boda Rider Arrested for Displaying Gun on Facebook

A boda boda rider from Webuye Town, Bungoma County has been arrested after displaying a firearm on social media.

Through his WhatsApp and Facebook accounts, Samson Wafula shared a photo of himself holding a pistol.

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) acted on the same after receiving a tip-off from the members of the public.

Wafula was arrested but the weapon was not recovered.

“We have gone to his house and searched but we dis not find the firearm. We believe he has hidden it somewhere,” a DCI detective told Nation.

Locals had claimed that Wafula who is not a registered gun holder is an aide to a local Member of County Assembly (MCA) but the leader denied any association with him.

The county legislator said he only knows Wafula as his supporter.

Detectives believe that Wafula is part of a criminal gang linked to illegal firearms that has been terrorizing locals in Webuye.

Confirming the arrest, Bungoma East DCI boss Peter Ramogi said Wafula claimed the gun belonged to a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer who is his friend.
