Blow to Kalonzo Musyoka as IEBC Stops His Presidential Bid

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential ambition will remain a mirage for now after he was barred from contesting by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The electoral agency reportedly locked out Kalonzo from the presidential race after he failed to meet the commission’s technical requirements.

As required before any presidential aspirant is cleared, the former vice-president did not present the list of his supporters in the Microsoft Excel sheet.

He also did not satisfy IEBC’s strict demands of 48,000 supporters in at least 24 counties, presentation of the supporters’ names and printed copies of their national identity cards.

Kalonzo’s short-lived presidential bid started after he cut ties with the Raila Odinga led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party.

He ditched the President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired coalition after it settled on Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua as its presidential running mate, a position he was also eyeing.

Kalonzo would then announce that he would vie for the presidency in the August 9 General Election, unveiling Andrew Sunkuli as his running mate.

With his ambition having been blocked, Kalonzo now has limited options in his political career with the boldest step he can take being rejoining Azimio.

It is worth noting that he has been promised a chief minister position in the Azimio government should Raila win the presidency.

The move by IEBC to bar Kalonzo elicited varied reactions on social media.

Jackline Gisemba said: “I thought he was being advised by learned lawyers!”

Noah Andati opined: “Dan Maanzo, Mutula Kilonzo Junior and senator Enock Wambua., why did you mislead the son of Musyoka? Now see the embarrassment, shame and humiliation you have brought him.”

Mwakavi Stevestansa Mutua said: “Early signs that IEBC is not yet an independent institution going to vote is a waste of time and resources.”

Kennedy Mc Oloto said: “That’s the plan of Mutula Kilonzo Junior Senator Wambua and Manzo to make sure they do away with Kalonzo politically in Ukambani.”

Peter Omado said: “This is a game plan which the wheelbarrow guys cannot understand, Azimio knew that Kalonzo cannot part legally, so they did it to confuse them.”
