A brave Meru priest cut short Senator Mithika Linturi’s speech during a church service after the lawmaker started attacking ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Before being interrupted, Linturi had launched an attack on the former prime minister saying his tendency to dispute election results had yielded to Kenyans fighting after every poll.
“Kenya is fighting because there is one individual (in an apparent reference to Raila), who does not accept election results announced by IEBC,” said Linturi.
However, the cleric interrupted the senator over what he termed as making insensitive remarks at the place of worship.
The man of God argued that as a church, they minister to everyone regardless of their political inclination and it was imprudent for Linturi to make such utterances considering the congregation had diverse political views.
“As I mentioned earlier, as a church, we try to minister to everyone from different political parties without causing any sense of animosity. We try to maintain that attitude, that whether you are UDA, ODM or Jubilee, you are welcome here.
When you are here, you need to feel comfortable that no one is alienating you and no one is saying things that are negative towards you,” he said.
Following the interruption, Linturi apologised to the church.
“This thing at times can be really emotional and I apologise to the church. I am sorry if I have gone beyond your borders,” he said.
