The cash was in denominations of fake 365,000 United States dollars and another KSh 96,000 in fake 1000 shilling notes, totalling KSh 41.8 million.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, the man of God was charged with being in possession of counterfeit bills of exchange contrary to the law.
However, before Milimani senior resident magistrate Carolyne Muthoni Njagi, the cleric pleaded not guilty to the charges.
“You are charged that on March 10, 2022, along Kiambu road, within Nairobi County with intent to deceive forged 100US dollars purporting to be bills of exchange,” read the charge sheet in part.
He was, in turn, released on a cash bail of Sh 100,000.
Mwangi was arrested following a tip-off from members of the public who had questioned his conduct.
Upon his arrest, the man of God was taken to the investigation agency’s headquarters for interrogations and it was after a thorough search in his car that the notes were recovered and confirmed to be fake.
