Ali Mwatsahu: Mombasa Politician Survives Assassination Attack After Car Shot 22 Times

A popular Mombasa politician and businessman survived an assassination attempt on Tuesday, April 6 after his car was sprayed with bullets by unknown assailants. 

Ali Mwatsahu was heading from a mosque when the assailants who were in two vehicles opened fire at his car in an attempt to and his life.

The gunmen shot the right side of his vehicle 22 times in the incident that happened in Tudor, near JCC Buxton at around 10 pm. 

The politician allied to Deputy President William Ruto sustained injuries on his arms and legs and he was rushed to Agha Khan hospital by a Tuk Tuk operator. 

The police visited the scene and took photos of the car before it was towed to the station.

Mwatsahu is eyeing the Mvita parliamentary seat in the August 9 General Elections.

In a statement after visiting Mwatsahu in hospital, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar Hassan demanded speedy investigations into the same and the perpetrators be brought to book. 

“CT scan and X-ray indicate that Mr. Mwatsahu has endured multiple gun shot wounds and is currently undergoing surgery at the Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa

“As Team Leader of UDA in Mombasa and Mr. Mwatsahu being one of my Team members, I speak for the entire UDA fraternity in demanding for a full and speedy investigation and the arrest of all the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Hassan said.

Mwatsahu, an investor in security sector, was among the Jubilee team that fervently campaigned for Uhuru Kenyatta on the run up to the 2013 poll.
