Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap Blocked from Leaving Azimio

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s party Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) has suffered a blow after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal blocked its attempt to exit Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

In a statement issued by the Tribunal chaired by Desma Nungo, the complaint by MCC was struck out on grounds that it was prematurely filed.

The Tribunal argued that Mutua’s party should have first considered the internal resolution mechanisms before going to the Tribunal.

The Tribunal also dismissed the party’s claims that it was not aware of the content of the Coalition agreement with Azimio, noting that MCC did not produce evidence indicating that the party asked the Registrar of Political Parties to furnish them with the document.

“It is difficult to find that MCC would have proceeded to execute a Coalition agreement of such magnitude without reading and understanding the same

“That argument cannot be used as ground of exit. No request or effort was made towards getting a copy,” said the Tribunal.

Mutua recently announced his exit from Azimio noting that the party considered the move out of frustration against them by the Raila Odinga-led Coalition.

He said Azimio failed to make public the coalition agreement signed with affiliate parties, despite his threat to file a case in court.
