Alex Ole Magelo: Former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker dies day after family dismissed death rumours

Former Nairobi county assembly Speaker Alex Ole Magelo is dead.

Kajiado governor Joseph Ole Lenku on Saturday,May 8 confirmed the demise of Magelo revealing he died at Nairobi Hospital.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of one of our greatest sons and warriors of our community. The late Magelo died at Nairobi Hospital where he has been admitted for some weeks now,” Ole Lenku said in a statement.

Fellow politicians have since taken to their social media pages to condole with the family.

“Today is a sad day for us! I am sadden by the departure of a true friend and a son of the Maa Nation Speaker Alex Ole Magelo. Rest well with the Angels say hi to Saitoti, Ntimama and Joh Keen for us,”Narok senator Ledama Ole Kina said.

This follows just a day after the deceased family denied rumours about his death.

Speaking to standard, the late’s wife Lucy Magelo, stated that although Magelo was in ICU, he was in the road to recovery.

However, the wife did not reveal what ailed the former AFC Leopards boss but confirmed he had been hospitalised for two weeks.

Following earlier reports, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris condemned bloggers for spreading rumours that Magelo had passed away due to covid-19 related complications.

Taking to her Twitter account, Passaris noted that she was badly affected by the news only for her to find out they were fake.

She sharply criticized those who spread the rumours noting the caused pain to the family of Magelo.

“I cried when I got the “news” that Ole Magelo was no more. So I sent a text to his wife, “tell me this is not true.” And she replied that it’s not true. To the bloggers, were the clicks and retweets worth the pain you have caused this family? Don’t be pathetic in search of clout!” she tweeted.
