Ruiru division police commander Phineas Lingera confirmed that incident saying that the family was boiling maize with a jiko during the night.

“We believe the overslept and forgot to put out the fire. The family may have died of suffocation after inhaling carbon monoxide,” Lingera said.

The officer further stated that there were no physical injuries on their bodies.

They were discovered dead by their neighbours who wondered why the man of that house had not gone to work early as his usual.

They knocked the door to the deceased rented single-room house and there was no response.
