26-year-old arrested for selling self for KSh 5.4 million

A 26-year-old man was recently arrested after sating he would sell himself out of poverty.

A photo widely shared on social media showed Aliyu Idris holding a signage indicating that he would sell himself for KSh 5.4 million.

Shortly before he was arrested and taken into lawful custody, Idris who is a tailor told journalists that he made the move because he had financial difficulties.

“I decided to sell myself because of poverty. KSh 540,000 for everyone who helped me find my buyer, I saved the rest for daily use,” he said.

Speaking on his arrest, the police said Idris’ move ws against the Islamic religion.

“Yes, we arrested him on Tuesday and he spent the night in our custody because what he did was illegal in Islam

“You have no right to sell yourself in any situation you find yourself in,” Hisbah commander Haruna Ibn Sina told BBC Hausa.
